All good quality whey protein concentrates are ultrafiltered and contain microfractions like alpha lactalbumin, beta lactoglobulin, lactoferrin, and glycomacropeptides. Concentrates have much of the water, carbohydrates, lactose, minerals, and fat removed such that the protein content is much more concentrated than it was before processing. Protein concentrates range from ~34%-85% protein, but most reputable manufacturers use at least 80% ( WPC-80 ).
Isolates are further stripped of non-protein materials to yield purity levels of 90% or higher. Because of the extra steps, energy, and processing losses, protein isolates are more expensive than protein concentrates.
Hydrolyzed proteins or protein hydrolysates have been partially broken down (also called pre-digested) into smaller pieces, so they get into your system quicker. Like isolates, hydrolysates are generally more expensive than concentrates because extra processing steps are required. In the end, all of these protein types are highly nutritious and basically provide similar benefits, but isolates and hydrolysates offer purity and performance advantages over concentrates
Milk contains both whey and casein protein. Milk protein and milk protein isolate are simply the casein and whey together in a 4:1 ratio casein to whey.
Hydrolyzed beef protein isolate (aka hydrolyzed collagen protein) is a cheap low-quality protein typically made from the bones and skin of cows, horses or pigs. Used for protein bars, "beef proteins" and dog food
ALL proteins have Amino Acids! - that's what protein is. If BCAA's, glutamine, etc are specifically listed under the "ingredients" then some extra were added. If not, then it is just the amino profile of the protein
Amino Spiking - adding cheap non-essential amino acids, such as glycine, creatine, taurine, glutamine which bind with nitrogen. Most protein tests measure nitrogen content - the cheap aminos raise the nitrogen level giving a false protein reading.
